Dr. Fetterolf has dedicated most of his life to learning about and caring for the mind. His curiosity drew him to studies at Cornell University, which ranged from the philosophy of mind to neurobiology of behavior. After studying neuroscience at the University of Pennsylvania, he decided to attend medical school. Here, he fell in love with psychiatry because each patient had a unique story. Dr. Fetterolf sought his graduate medical education at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC, one of the nation’s largest and most renowned university-affiliated psychiatric hospitals.

To become a psychiatrist who also provides psychotherapy, he received advanced training at the Columbia University and Pittsburgh Psychoanalytic Centers. Dr. Fetterolf is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology and a member of the American Academy of Psychoanalysis.

Dr. Fetterolf’s clinical practice is patient-centered and evidence-based. He believes very strongly in the power of the patient-doctor relationship. His clinical philosophy can be best described as an attempt to place a person’s symptoms in the context of an understanding of them as an individual, considering their development, personality, and life narrative.

In addition to Dr. Fetterolf’s clinical work, he provides forensic consultation related to civil and criminal matters. His clinical experience offering comprehensive long-term treatment for sexual-trauma allows him to provide expert case evaluation and testimony related to such violence, particularly in the workplace. Dr. Fetterolf has also served as a consultant to courts in Pennsylvania for opinions on trial competency and mental state at the time of the offense.
