Labor and Employment Staff Attorney at Reed Smith
Marguerite is currently a Staff Attorney with Reed Smith, LLP in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She provides support to the firm’s clients in the labor and employment practice group. As an experienced litigator and a passionate advocate for her clients, Marguerite brings a wealth of experience to bear in her practice, which includes counseling companies regarding compliance with both state and federal laws and regulations; representing and advising clients during EEOC, DOL and other federal and state agency investigations; defending in both state and federal court against actions involving employment discrimination, wrongful termination, harassment, retaliation, and wage and hour claims; and prosecuting non-competition claims. She is particularly knowledgeable regarding issues involving the ADA, ADEA, Title VII, FMLA, and restrictive covenants.
Born and raised on Long Island, New York, Marguerite relocated to Buffalo, New York in 2005, where she attended SUNY College at Buffalo. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy in 2012, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology in 2013. Upon graduation from college, Marguerite relocated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and attended University of Pittsburgh School of Law. She graduated with her Juris Doctorate in 2016.
During her time at University of Pittsburgh School of Law, Marguerite interned with Southwestern Pennsylvania Legal Services, providing free legal assistance to low income individuals residing in Washington and Fayette Counties. Marguerite then received the Allegheny Bar Foundation Lawyers Fund Fellowship, through which she interned with the Education Law Center and became involved in a variety of projects pertaining to legal issues in the realm of public education, including rights of children with disabilities, school discipline, and state funding for public education.
Marguerite also worked as a Certified Legal Intern for two of the University’s legal clinics. Through the Elder Law Clinic, Marguerite provided free legal services to low-income individuals residing in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania in matters related to aging, including advance planning for incapacity, estate planning, and guardianships. Marguerite also worked with the University’s Family Law Clinic, through which she participated in the Allegheny County Family Court Pro Se Program, assisting pro se litigants with a range of domestic law issues, including custody, child support, and paternity.
Upon graduation from University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 2016, and before entering into private practice, Marguerite served as Judicial Clerk to the Honorable President Judge Thomas R. Dobson in the Mercer County Court of Common Pleas. She gained high-level experience researching complex legal issues, advising the judiciary with regard to novel matters, and drafting bench memoranda and opinions.
In early 2017, prior to joining Reed Smith, Marguerite practiced as an Associate Attorney at Tremba, Kinney, Greiner & Kerr, LLC, a small Greensburg, Pennsylvania firm. She gained considerable experience in a wide variety of practice areas. Her practice during her time with Tremba Kinney included domestic law, estate administration, guardianships, landlord tenant disputes (both commercial and residential), and general civil litigation. In time, her practice there shifted focus, with an increasing emphasis on representing clients with regard to labor and employment law issues. Marguerite represented clients in both plaintiff and defense employment cases, an experience which provides her with unique insight and enhances her strategic abilities in her current practice as a management-side employment attorney.
Marguerite is a member of the American Bar Association, Pennsylvania Bar Association, Allegheny County Bar Association, Westmoreland County Bar Association, and Fayette County Bar Association. She is admitted to practice law in all Pennsylvania State Courts and in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
