Derek Hunter is an associate in the Energy and Natural Resources Group of Babst Calland. Mr. Hunter counsels various energy, oil, gas and mineral-related clients on transaction matters related to oil and gas title issues and opinions.

Mr. Hunter graduated summa cum laude from West Virginia University in 2016, earning his B.A. in Economics and Political Science. He received his J.D. from Penn State Law in 2019. During law school, he was a senior editor for the Arbitration Law Review, and he worked as a research assistant for Prof. Marie Reilly. Additionally, Mr. Hunter served as President of the Penn State Law chapter of the Federalist Society and was a member of Phi Alpha Delta and Phi Delta Phi. He also received a CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Law and Policy of Shale Gas Development.

Mr. Hunter began his Babst Calland career in May 2018 as a summer associate and continued to work on a part-time basis during his third year of law school. Prior to joining Babst Calland, Mr. Hunter served as an intern at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of West Virginia in Wheeling, WV.
